Russ Allen started his career as an architectural draftsman working for National
Museums of Canada and eventually started a furniture restoration/cabinet
finishing business, which operates out of Georgetown, Ontario and here in Perth.
These experiences have complimented Russ’ creative instinct and he has found
a way to express this culmination on the wood lathe.
The lathe enables Russ to interpret the natural abstract world and present it with
unexpected symmetry. He incorporates natural and recycled materials in his
pieces, unifying renewable and reusable elements. Russ also likes to render
estate furniture for his bowls and pieces, creating meaningful reinterpretations of
family heirlooms.
The lathe has provided a truly serendipitous, creative outlet for Russ, where time
seems to melt away.
Russ lives in Perth, Ontario.
